Does a low-carb diet really make you lose weight faster

We say a bit of everything and it is the opposite about low-carb diets. Of course, when you want to lose weight, you must avoid drawing too much energy from carbohydrates. But WW believes above all in the virtues of a diet balanced diet, based on healthy choices and reasoned. And that goes through delicious low carbohydrate recipes.

What are carbohydrates?

Like protein and fat, carbohydrates (also known as sugars or starches) are nutrients found in food. They provide energy: 4 kcal per gram. This is as much as protein but much less than lipids (or fat: 9 kcal per gram).

Where are carbohydrates found?

Most people associate carbohydrates with bread and pasta, but they are found in a multitude of products, for example:

  • Milk
  • Fruits
  • Legumes
  • Some vegetables
  • Sweets
  • Sodas
  • Biscuits

In short, it is found in almost all foodstuffs. But the difference between milk, legumes, and vegetables on the one hand, and sweets, sodas, and cookies on the other, is that the former contains many more healthy and important nutrients than the latter.

Is a low-carb diet healthy?

The answer to this question depends on the extent to which one deprives oneself of carbohydrates. As an important fuel for the brain and the nervous system, they are essential (hence the need to eat them from time to time). But not too much, because they can torpedo weight loss efforts! That's why our dieticians have created several delicious low-carbohydrate recipes.

Do carbohydrates make you fat?

It all depends, once again, on the quantities consumed. Basically, carbohydrates don't always make you fat. In short, you only gain weight if you ingest more energy than you spend. To lose weight, it is therefore sufficient to absorb less energy than that expended (especially by physical activity). Weight loss is guaranteed as long as the SmartPoints budget is respected, regardless of whether you ate bread or pasta that day.

Should we deprive ourselves of carbohydrates?

You can do without the carbohydrates in candy, sodas, fast food, and cookies, or at least eat them in moderation. Indeed, these carbohydrates do not contain nutrients that provide any benefit to the body. In contrast, the carbohydrates found in whole foods like bread and brown rice, vegetables, legumes, and fruits form the basis of a healthy diet. They are therefore to be favored. Of course, adding variety and having a low-carb meal every now and then doesn't hurt. We lose weight as long as we make healthy choices and find the right balance between the amount of carbohydrates and energy expenditure.
